The main tank T-80 is the world's first serial tank with gas turbine power plant.

The T-80 tank is equipped with a set of guided weapons 9K112-1 "Cobra" and the FCS 1A33 (laser rangefinder sight 1G42, tank ballistic computer 1B 517, stabilizer 2E26, 1G43 block permits of a shot and a set of sensors), a gun 2A46-2, "Cloud" smoke garnet starting system 902A. Has intensified armouring of the tower.

T-80BV is additionally equipped with a set of hinged reactive armor.
