Modernization tank T-72BME

In order to improve the tactical and technical characteristics of the T-72M1 tank in terms of firepower, autonomy and command controllability, a modernization kit MK-72BME was developed.
          As a result of modernization, the T-72BME tank has improved tactical and technical characteristics.
          Firepower, improved observation and aiming conditions are increased due to the installation of a multi-channel (television and thermal imaging channels) combined (day and night) sight, which allows in day and night without illumination of the target, not detecting itself with infrared radiation, effectively hit the enemy from the gun by day and at night using armor-piercing sub-caliber, high-explosive fragmentation and cumulative shells and guided missiles.
     The installation of a ballistic computer with meteorological sensors, sensors of careen and tangage, wind, and position made it possible to increase the accuracy of shooting.
     With the including of a guided missile into the ammunition load, its loading is carried out using the existing automatic loader, a storage device and a rotating transporter, which has been finalized to ensure loading of missiles and guided missiles.
     An autonomous power supply unit is installed on the left caterpillar shelf of the tank’s hull, which is connected via a set of cable assemblies to the tank’s general electrical system. Its installation makes it possible to work all the components and assemblies of the vehicle without unmasking work of the engine of the tank in place for an unlimited time, to perform a combat task.
     Command controllability and improving the quality of communication is achieved by installing a modern digital radio station instead of the previously installed analogue.
    The joint work of the sight, the gun stabilizer with a set of cable assemblies, and the automatic loader allows the gunner and commander to work in duplicate control mode with aimed firing of tank weapons day and night from place and in motion.
     The mechanic-driver has an active-passive night observation device equipped with a binocular magnifier, which greatly facilitates the view of the terrain and reduces eye fatigue of the mechanic-driver while changing light conditions.
    The tank's security is enhanced by strengthening the armor protection of the hull by installing the upper frontal part on the front sheet of the vehicle and on-board lattice anti-cumulative screens, as well as installing dynamic protection on the hull and turret.
    Installing a new, more powerful 618 kW engine and upgraded planetary gearboxes improves the mobility of the vehicle. An individual torsion bar suspension with overstroke and the installation of shock absorbers of increased energy intensity allow the chassis of the tank to compensate for its increased mass.
