Joint Stock Company "140 repair plant"

The date of formation of JSC "140 Repair Plant" is May 03, 1943.

Joint-Stock Company "140 Repair Plant" has an extraordinary destiny. It was born in the fiery years of the Great Patriotic War and experienced all the hardships and deprivations of the war.

The beginning of 1943 was marked by the completion of the Battle of Stalingrad and a fundamental turning point in the war. The Soviet troops began to push Hitler's divisions along the entire front with powerful and decisive blows. One of the most important elements of all these offensive operations were tank armies and formations. Their use provided the troops not only a decisive advantage in strength in the main directions, but also made it possible to carry out effective breakthroughs prepared enemy defenses with further development of success. And in this regard, of particular importance acquired qualitative and operational overhaul of armored vehicles. But there was a certain problem here - small workshops could not perform complex repair work, so most of the tanks and tank units were sent for repair to the rear to stationary plants. And all this took a long time and diverted the resources so necessary for the front. It was necessary to somehow bring high quality factory repairs directly to the line of contact with the enemy.

Among the few repair units of the Red Army of that period stood out the 1st stationary armored repair workshop of the North-Western Front (Vyshny Volochek, Kalinin region). It was headed by a talented engineer-major Ponomarev. On his initiative the 1st Sbtrm used the advanced experience of the industry and the best technological solutions of the Moscow Central Military Repair Plant in mastering the overhaul of tank diesels, which was so necessary at that time.

At the end of February 1943, P. P. Ponomarev went to Moscow to see the head of the Main Armored Department of the Red Army, Lieutenant General B. G. Vershinin with a proposal to overhaul tank diesels. G. Vershinin with a proposal to form a qualitatively new repair unit - a mobile tank-unit repair plant (PTARZ). The main idea was that the new enterprise could freely do without stationary production facilities and power plants, operate in any conditions and move after the troops.

In April 1943, in the midst of the Great Patriotic War battles, on the personal initiative of Joseph Stalin, who believed that mobile plants should function on the front line rather than working teams for repairing military equipment, the State Defense Committee adopted a resolution on the establishment of mobile tank-unit repair plants. Thus, JSC "140 Repair Plant" was established on the basis of the mobile tank-unit repair plant - PTARZ No. 7, which was formed in May-August 1943 by the decision of the State Defense Committee of the USSR dated April 19, 1943 No. 3211. The first ever PTARZ № 7, headed by engineer-major P.P.Ponomarev, chief engineer V.P.Kolomiets, and chief mechanic D.I.Zverko was designed, built and formed in record time for the country - only for 105 days. In this work, in addition to the labor collective of 1 Sbtrm itself and its management, a significant role was also played by the team of the Central Military Project headed by architect K.A.Fomin and the management of the Central Departments and enterprises of industry.

In July 1948 PTRAZ No. 7 was redeployed to Borisov. And in December 1948 PTRAZ No. 7 was reorganized into 140 Armored Tank Repair Plant. Between 1948 and 1968, the 140 Armored Tank Repair Plant met the needs of the BVO in the repair of diesel engines and transmission units of medium tanks. The BVO, as a front line district, was constantly being equipped with the most modern armament, including BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, and, accordingly, the task to organize their overhaul, which was assigned to the 140 BTRZ by the task of the head of the USSR Defense Ministry's State Armored Vehicle Repair Plant.

At the same time, on the basis of the petition of the KBVO command and NTV of the USSR Defense Ministry, the decision was made to reconstruct and build the plant, and in 1968 a new stage in the life of the plant and its staff began. Without waiting for the construction of new workshops, and the first production building No. 1 was put into operation in 1971, the staff of the plant mastered the overhaul of BMP-1 in an adapted room. So the first prototype of the repaired BMP-1 came out of the factory gates in 1968, and in January 1975 the factory held a solemn meeting dedicated to the delivery of the thousandth BMP-1 to the troops.

Thus, the production capacities created during the period of reconstruction and construction and the established team made it possible to successfully master the overhaul of BMP-2 and T-72A tanks in 1981 and T-72B tanks in 1992. Every year, Borisov tank repairers gave a second life to a thousand combat vehicles and two and a half thousand diesel engines.
